Josie’s chocolate polvoron and an American’s adobo
January 5, 2008
Ever since I posted an entry on chocolate polvoron late in 2006, I have been besieged with requests for recipes… A reader, Josie, was able to successfully make chocolate coated polvoron and, with her kind permission, let me share a photo of her masterpiece.

Sinigang na baboy (sour soup with pork): it’s all in the bones
September 4, 2007
If you’re intend to serve the sinigang as a soup (meaning you have another dish for the main course), then, the important thing is to have the best quality broth you can make. That means bones — lots of bones. If, however, you intend to serve the sinigang as the main dish, you need meatier cuts of pork. Otherwise, you’ll be practically serving rice with broth and vegetables and very little meat.

Bear with me… the cookbook has passed dream stage
August 14, 2007
It’s been rather hard to pull myself together to open this blog after what happened last Friday. You’ll have to read it in my other blog. I suggest that you do so that you can better understand the rest of this entry.
Done? Okay…
My first reaction was to put Pinoy Cook on semi-retirement. Meaning, no updating to wrap up the work on the cookbook that I first mentioned more than a year ago. The writing part wasn’t so hard, taking better photos was harder. It didn’t help either that I couldn’t — still can’t — work fulltime on the book. I have a family — a hungry husband and kids, I have a twice weekly op-ed column, I write for a magazine, I teach “Internet and Law” to high school seniors and there’s also an IT Guild which is like a combination of IT and high school journalism. But the most trying part was writing the cookbook and keeping this blog up-to-date. It was like writing two cookbooks at the same time.

My recipes in Shanghai
December 14, 2006
Yesterday, I posted an entry in my other weblog about requests for my baked macaroni. One is from my daughter’s best friend who is celebrating her birthday today (the party will be tomorrow though). The other is from Sam’s classmates who have voted to include my baked macaroni in the class party’s menu. You might want to read the original entry for better context.
Phynkee posted a comment about having made the baked macaroni twice (her two daughter’s birthday parties, respectively) and that she would be making it again for their Pinoy Christmas party in Shanghai. Well, she e-mailed me some photos from her daughter’s birthday party and… I really feel like Christmas, you know?

On Pete Wells’ “In the Belly of the Blog”
February 13, 2006
Got an e-mail from the Pinoy food bloggers mailing list and it seems that some food bloggers are smarting from a Food & Wine column by someone called Pete Wells. The guy doesn’t have a lot of good things to say about food blogs. In fact, he’s downright insulting especially for what he terms as [...]

Christmas gift from Mama Sita
January 4, 2006
More than a year ago, I wrote about how my sister-in-law brought my food blog to the attention of the owners of Mama Sita food company. They sent me bags of their products twice as a show of support for my efforts in this food blog. Mama Sita is not a sponsor nor an advertiser [...]

From Greece, with love
March 18, 2005
I met her on the net. Since I don’t have her permission yet to publish her name, let me introduce her as a Filipina living in Greece and moving to Norway soon. Actually, she might already be in Norway by now. A couple of Filipinas she knows came home to the Philippines last week and [...]
