Chicken in sour cream

Ah, the magic of sour cream. And if that’s too sinful for you and you worry about clogged arteries, substitute yogurt and the result is just as good. This chicken in sour cream dish is so good that you’ll want to dip pieces of bread in the sauce until your plate is quite dry.

The yield from the following recipe serves 6 to 8 persons.
Ingredients :
12 large boneless skinless chicken thighs (about a kilo and a half), cut into quarters
4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into wedges
1-2 carrots, peeled and cut into wedges (smaller than the carrot wedges)
1 large white onion, peeled and cut into wedges
3/4 c. of frozen sweet peas, thawed
1 c. of sour cream
1/2 c. of butter
salt
pepper
finely sliced parsley for garnish
Cooking procedure :
Place the chicken in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
Heat the butter in a large, wide cooking pan (I used a wok). When hot, add the potatoes and fry over high heat until the edges start to brown. Don’t worry if the edges appear too brown at this point — the sour cream will take care of that so don’t sweat it unless you really burned them.
Add the chicken and continue frying until the edges of the chicken start to brown.
Add the carrots and onion wedges. Fry for a minute longer.
Add the peas. Pour in the sour cream. Season with salt and pepper. Stir well. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
Sprinkle with parsley before serving.
Some tips:
This dish is best when cooked a day ahead. Everything is much tastier after reheating.
If sour cream is not available in the supermarket, make your own. Pour a cup of cream in a bowl and squeeze half a lemon over it. Let stand for 10 minutes before stirring and using.

what better alternative for Chicken Pastel! I’ll definitely try this one for Noche Buena. BTW, what sour cream brand did you use?
thanks for the generosity of sharing the recipes, Connie. idol talaga! excited na ako for recipes especially for kids.
Feng, actually, I made my own by mixing all-purpose cream and lemon juice.
all purpose cream and lemon juice?? that’s all you do to make sour cream?? ang mahal pa naman ng sour cream, ganun lang pala gumawa nyan! hehe
thanks!
btw, i’ve been experiencing errors lately here in your site. the comments section is sometimes not displayed. it flashes for while then disappears. is it just me?
this one or the main blog? Alam mo, my blogs are on a dedicated server but there was an overload about two hours ago. I guess that’s a result of the additional traffic brought in by the noche buena blog.
I’m not sure if you can get it in the Philippines, but they sell light sour cream here in Aus. It’s not as rich as normal sour cream but it’ll do if you’re super worried about the fat content
I see them once in a while. Imported section side by side with the super expensive cheeses that smell like hell. hehehe But even sour cream is not available in every supermarket, only in bigger ones. I suppose it’s because it isn’t really a part of the Filipino eating and cooking habits.
This and the main site. For me to be able to comment, i click on the stop button before the comments section disappears. It started with your Cornmeal entry. The comments also overlap the copyright, which isn’t showing right now since i clicked on the stop button. I’ll try to use a different computer tonight to see if i still get the same error.
Wow, let me check using the kids’ laptops. In IE and Firefox.
I’m also getting the same problem as peterb. I’ve been meaning to add a comment also but the comment sections disappears before I could post a comment. I just followed peterb and click the stop button. And yes, the comments overlap the copyright. A while ago, it overlaps the recipe.
Anyway, love the site. And I was really amazed that you only need all purpose cream and lemon to make sour cream. Thanks for that info.
Checked it. It’s an IE problem. Arrrggggh!!!!!!!
I’m on top it. The fastest solution is to switch themes.
Thanks as usual for the recipes! Yes, I too started not seeing the comments from the cornmeal entry.
Rob, I think I was able to fix that. Lemme know if some things are still screwed.
I’m just avid reader here… Gusto ko try pero hanggang tingin lang… Napansin ko lang, IE at Firefox lang po gamit ninyo. I’m using Opera browser while browsing here..
Siguro old version na kasi gamit ninyo. IE 6 user po kayo. Stable version ko po IE 7.
At saka laptop user po ako. Lagi ako kasi sinusuri kung may update yun program.
Hi Laurent, thanks for the info. At salamat naman at walang nang issue. I switched templates already and fixed the one in the main blog. Hindi ko ma test sa IE unless maki gamit ako ng laptop ng mga anak ko. Yung Firefox plugin na IE View pang Windows lang kasi.
Made this for dinner using pork tenderloin. Really delicious!
Thanks, Connie!
