Chocolate chip cookies
It was my intention to bake these cookies last Friday, pack them in attractive party bags and distribute them among my daughters’ guests as party favors. As things went, however, I didn’t have the time. So, I baked them today, with help from my younger daughter, now 12. Yeah, miracle of miracles… I’m learning how to bake. This entry ought to be the first in some sort of Baking 101.

Actually, the kids’ school fair is coming up and they want a booth to sell cookies. So, we’re practising. If we don’t mess up with our baking, we might make it to the school fair.
The basic recipe is from the Cooking Class Cookbook (Publications International Ltd., 1994). I just made one substitution. Instead of brown sugar which I had run out of, I used molasses.

Hi Sassy,
You might want to check out joyofbaking.com
They have a really good banana bread recipe.
I am a regular (albeit quiet) reader of your blog, but I just had to respond to this entry! Coincidentally, I *also* just decided to venture into the world of baking recently, & my first attempt were oatmeal-chocolate chip-walnut cookies. They were a smashing success, so I have *also* been toying around with the idea of baking a huge batch of them & yes, giving them away as party favors for my son’s birthday in May! I am just so sick of giving & receiving bags of various candy & chocolates as party favors–para bang wala nang maisip? Yes, they are a quick fix, but just not very creative at all. (And this is coming from a person without a creative bone in her body!) Keep up the good work, I love your recipes, especially the spaghetti carbonara–so yummy & so easy to prepare!
A, what a great baking site! I think I’ll make the carrot muffins.
I know what you mean by those unimaginative party favors. Urgh! People think that the more the contents of the loot bags, the better it is. But, really, half the contents just go to waste.
Julie, well, how nice that you finally decided to break your silence.
We’re thinking of going a step farther. Kids’ school fair coming up and we might get a booth and sell cookies!
congrats on the cookie baking
they look great.
I must say I’m *good* in baking. In my experience the best way to have the product in its best way is to use the right measurements, temperature and love.
next time ulit sassy
dexie, thanks. my kids brought a few to school. their classmates loved the cookies! i really think we can sell them at the school fair.
Kats, next time… rum cake hehehe
hi.. 2 and 1/4 cups of flour ba is needed in this recipe? thanks…
yes, rochelle.
connie,
i remember you had a site before all about party ideas, i cannot seem to find it now, please show me the link
Jo, so sorry. That entire blog was wiped out when the database got screwed in December 2005.
Hi! Miss Connie, tanong lang po , may idea po ba kayo kung saan pwedeng mag enroll ng baking for 1 month…..
Jerry, try the culinary school along Katipunan. Cravings building. Or Gene Gonzalez’s Cafe Ysabel.
hi, i would really like to try my hand at baking cookies and this one ’seems’ simple enough ^^ however, i don’t have an electric mixer… will it really make that much of a difference in terms of quality? ^^ sorry, amateur baker^^;
No, the difference is in the time you’ll need to spend mixing. And, of course, your arms are likely to ache more.
Just perfect! I was finding a simple choco chip recipe to bake for my little siblings.
Since I am their ate, I thought of browsing for recipes first so to prevent gastrointestinal problems. Haha! This will be my first time to bake! More power to your blog!
Hi, Con. I can’t seem to find molasses. What’s the measurement if I use the brown sugar instead? Thanks so much! I love your site, I have been an avid fan for years now.
Belle, I have no idea. Molasses is a liquid.
