Chocolate coated gummy bears
January 10, 2006
Filed under Asia & beyond, My kids cook too!, Oh so sweet!
One thing about my older girl (she’s 13), she has very redical ideas. Who would have thought of cooking sago (tapioca balls), putting them in sweetened iced water and coloring everything blue? Who would have thought of using chicharon (pork cracklings) for making spaghetti sauce? One thing she still has to learn to do consistently though is to clean up after cooking anything. Thatss why the chocolate gummy bears are memorable. First time she cleaned up without me nagging her to do it before the ants invaded the kitchen.
In the mood for more food?

sassy!!! VERY CREATIVE.. if she start doing this thing again w fruits make sure the choc is 70% pure so its glossy.
ok at least alam ko na ang iipit ko sa susunod hahaha!
PS pala try a cooling rack next time instead of wax paper para the excess choc flows out easily..
Naku, ha, nakahanap ng mentor ang anak ko!
I think she will love the idea of dipping fruits in chocolate. She did it once with strawberries but there was something wrong with the chocolate–it didn’t harden.
Rack–yeah, time to get one. Useful for cooling cakes too. She’s into baking as well. hehehe Puro pampataba!
this is great for kids parties. kudos to your daughter. i’ll try doing this with my son sometime
She’s very creative!
I’d give those gummi bears a try! And her other concoctions too! Spaghetti with chicharon sounds very intriguing.
Quite cute indeed. I love chocolate and gummy bears, so I should quite like this one..
chocolate covered gummi bears are very popular over here, they sell like crazy at “The Sweet Factory”
Gee, I just told my daughter about this comment thread and she’s moving to baking something with chocolate. I wonder what she will do next time.
Your daughter is so creative, galing ng bata. I will show this blog to my son, he loves cooking also.
I hope your son finds my daughter’s invention “encouraging”.
fantastic idea indeed! i’ll definitely do this with the kids..
..great idea.. i’ll to do this for my bro.. hehe.. we both love chocolate! mmmm….Ü
LOL my daughter’s experiment is such a hit!
whats a good kind of chocolate to use that will surely harden?
Cris
Hi Cris, Hershey’s chocolate morsels.
Hi, what’s the recipe of the chocolate that you used?
no recipe, kim, you just melt the chocolate in a bowl of hot water. kinda like a double boiler–one bowl on top of the other.
oh okay. So after dipping the gummy bears in chocolate, we just leave it in the open to cool? Is there a need to put it in the fridge? And will they turn out hard like the chocolate they use to coat ice creams?
Yes, just leave them in a cool dry place, no need to put them in the fridge, although the chocolate will harden faster in the fridge.
hi! where can i buy those chocolates here in the philippines? the one that melts. i am interested in making those chocolate coated gummy bears
Hershey’s chocolate morsels are available in groceries. However, I suggest Chocolate Lover. http://www.chocolatelover.com.ph.
Does anybody know how to soften hard gummy bears or worms?
hi! i bumped into your website earlier this year and regularly browsed it eversince… i find your entries very interesting and inspiring.
i feel that your daughters are very lucky to have a super mom like you and that at a very young age they are exposed to this art (cooking as it is, not just presentation, is an art for me) and i would love to have my future children experience just the same…
Hi Ice, my 15-year-old daughter is making some maki right now. It’s heartening to know that they’re not helpless in the kitchen.
I nuked hard gummi bears for about 3-5 seconds and it helped soften them a lot!
