Kitchenware sale and the breakfast blog
First, The Breakfast Daily is up. I mentioned it a couple of entries ago and I was hoping to launch it much earlier. But we just moved houses and getting broadband installed took longer than I expected so the blog didn’t actually go live until last night.
What’s in The Breakfast Daily? Breakfast ideas, some with recipes. Why didn’t I just integrate the content in this blog? Lots of reasons, the most significant of which is that I want to write about food and health issues which I don’t think properly belong in a recipes blog. Food and health can be very political issues so I needed a separate space for that.

Video: gutting and cleaning fresh fish
The short video on how to gut and clean fresh fish was taken by my daughter Sam using her Sony Ericsson K800i. It’s my way of announcing that very shortly I will be posting food and cooking videos in Pinoy Cook — not taken with a cell phone but with a real video cam. Yeah, straight from my kitchen. And street food too. It’s an idea that I’ve been toying around with for sometime…

Happy Mother’s Day!
To the mothers who cook my recipes; to the mothers who love to make their mouth water by ogling at photos in my food blogs; to the mothers who love to eat out; to the mothers who never experienced home-cooked meals in their childhood because their own mothers were lousy cooks (like mine hehehe); to the thin moms and the non-so-thin moms; to the young moms and to moms who will forever be young-at-heart, to the moms-to-be and to everyone else because we all have mothers, don’t we…

Newsletter issues
I have received e-mails from a couple of subscribers to the newsletter service that they have been getting blank pages instead of newsletters. I don’t know yet what the problem is. I always CC myself every time I send out a newsletter and I get my copy without issues.
Just to let you know, the newsletter is sent out using the mailing list service of Expression Engine, the CMS that Pinoy Food Talk is on. It is NOT the latest version of Expression Engine although it is a licensed version. The last time I renewed the license, their system rejected my credit card and I ended up getting a free renewal (thanks!). It’s been more than a year since so, perhaps, I really need to renew the license in order to get the latest version.

Pinoy Cook newsletter archive
I meant to do this over two weeks ago then I started on a project for my kids’ school and forgot. Whether the forgetfulness was a consequence of excitement or age, I don’t know. I’d like to think it’s the excitement because I have this “forever young” attitude. At any rate, let me make the announcement now. Still late, but better late than even later. I created an archive for the Pinoy Cook newsletter. Those who are not subscribed to the newsletter and those who accidentally delete the newsletter from their inbox can now view all the previous issues.

Pinoy Cook Newsletter, issue no. 1
I haven’t done a newsletter in two years and I’m a little rusty. It took me three hours to finish the maiden issue of the relaunched Pinoy Cook Newsletter. Actually, in a sense, it is not a relaunch. The old newsletter service was before there was a pinoycook.net domain. The service was attached to the old home of the food blog, a subdomain in houseonahill.net. Whatever. The important thing is that the 110 foodies who subscribed to the newsletter service just received a copy of the first edition in their inboxes.
What’s in the newsletter? Digests of the entries posted during the past two weeks and a feature article called “Jazz up the tired old guisado.”

The bi-monthly newsletter
The last time I sent out newsletters to readers of my food blog was way back in 2004. For over a year, I sent out weekly newsletters with summaries of the most recently published recipes. I’m reviving the service. The new newsletter does not have a name yet but the date of the first issue has already been decided — February 14th, Valentine’s Day. Nice timing, eh?
My Valentine’s gift to Pinoy Cook readers.

Soulfood and Tropical Flowers Wordpress Themes
I was fooling around with my templates and came up with these two. I uploaded them both at the Wordpress Theme Viewer but note that there is an error in the comments templates in the version of Soulfood at the Wordpress Theme Viewer site. The error has been corrected in the zip file provided in [...]
