Gourmet’s salad dressing

gourmet's garlic and honey-mustard salad dressingsI was in the supermarket earlier today and I saw these bottles of salad dressings from Gourmet’s Cafe in Silang Cavite. Gourmet’s Cafe is famous for its salads made from home grown vegetables. It is a popular stop for people going to or coming from Tagaytay City. A decade or so ago, one has to go there to enjoy the house specialties but its vegetables and salad dressings are now available in supermarkets.

I already had a huge bunch of romaine lettuce in the cart for tonight’s salad to accompany the roast chicken. I decided to try Gourmet’s salad dressings. With about half a dozen varities to choose from, I chose the Garlic Salad Dressing and the Honey Mustard Salad Dressing. Haven’t opened the Garlic Salad Dressing yet.

Was the Honey Mustard Salad Dressing any good? It tasted okay–nothing spectacular but it wasn’t bad. More sour than sweet with the taste of the mustard dominating over the honey. There was no other discernable flavor. I was thinking that a touch of garlic and cilantro would have made it better. But my real complaint was the consistency–it was too thin. Since it is an emulsion based dressing, I know that the thin consistency is due to the very little olive oil used. Had more olive oil been added, the salad dressing would have been thicker. Well, I suppose that with the PhP 147.00 price tag (less than US$ 3.00), I should have expected that. After we consume this bottle of salad dressing and we want honey-mustard dressing with our vegetables, I’ll make the dressing myself.
