camaron rebosado

There was camaron rebosado (deep-fried batter-coated shrimps served with sweet and sour sauce)…

lechon con kangkong

Lechon con kangkong (crispy pork belly with water spinach), laing (taro leaves in coconut milk), a salad and I forgot what else.

The chicken inasal was good, so was the molo soup, the rest were okay although nothing to get too excited about. Considering the prices (a drumstick-thigh-back inasal went for P75.00 if I remember correctly) and the reasonably fast and efficient service, I can understand why it is popular among the office crowd.

I do have one complaint. I always go to the rest room after a meal in a restaurant. The Ladies Room at Jay-J’s was clean, it had strong running water, a decent toilet bowl, but…

comfort room window

There was this window right beside the toilet bowl that was in the direct line of sight of a huge condominium building across the street. It was the only window so it had to stay open since there was no exhaust fan inside the Ladies Room. At night, when the light inside the Ladies Room is on, anyone using the toilet would be in full view of anyone with a telephoto lens or binoculars in the condominium.

Some people might not consider toilet facilities in a restaurant as a serious issue. I see it differently. I am very particular about toilets, wash areas and even the availability of toilet paper and hand towels. Those things… they say a lot about how the restaurant management values the comfort and wellbeing of the customers. But then again, that’s just me.

Just like adobo, inasal has so many versions. The taste varies from one resto to another. I’ve researched and my hunt yielded more than five inasal recipes. Even Marketman has his version (on a scale of 1 to 5, his version gets 3). Surprise! Surprise! The best version by far uses only kitchen staples (by Chef Fernando Aracama). Connie, why don’t you join the fray and come up with your own take on the classic Pinoy dish?

I was going to last night, Ryan. The chicken didn’t thaw on time. LOL But I will soon. Hope the weather cooperates so we can charcoal-grill. :)

Im hungry na. hehe I don’t have anything against Jay-J’s but since your talkin about QC why not go for Bacolod Chicken Inasal at Quezon Memorial Circle or at TriNoma? just a simple though that u might consider next time, it’s really sooooooooooooooo good. They do have a variety of other meals too, aside from their ever-famous “inasal na manok” like Gambas, Crispy Crablets, Sizzling Garlic Mushroom, Sizzling Chiken, Pork Barbeque and etc… It’s really the best. Hope you guys would consider paying a visit to BCI, to know what it’s like to eat there… ILOVEIT. hehe

I have been in the branch of Bacolod Chicken Inasal in RP, Trinoma and G4. I love their chicken. It’s not like the chicken that we eat in the fastfood like Jollibee and Mcdonalds. Hmmm sarap ulit-ulitin.

  12. Ellaine Aducol on March 29th, 2008 3:53 pm

I heard about them before, now I wanna try there. What’s the Bacolod Chicken Inasal’s specialty?

  13. Jaime Monreal on May 2nd, 2008 10:42 am

Connie, you are absolutely right about restrooms in restaurants - it says a lot about their operation and sanitation. That’s the first thing I check-out before eating. … and, I will have chicken inasal anytime over any fast food style chicken.

  14. Evan Sta Maria on May 5th, 2008 5:14 am

Ellaine, Bacolod Chicken Inasal’s specialty is visayan cuisine.
