Lemongrass cooler at Vieux Chalet
So, the graduation ceremony that was originally scheduled for Friday, March 31st and which was postponed because of the rains, took place yesterday, April 3rd. My 12-year-old will be a high school freshman in June. We obliged her by having dinner at her place of choice–Vieux Chalet Swiss Inn. Contrary to my usual practice of drinking only water, I decided to order a lemongrass cooler. The humidity of summer can be a killer.
But, more than the humidity, I was intrigued by the juice made from lemongrass. My acquaintance with this herb is limited to its uses for cooking–not for making juices. I wanted to try it. And I didn’t regret my decision. Vieux Chalet’s lemongrass cooler was sweet with a tinge of acidity, a citrusy (lemony) aroma and a hint of mint. It was marvellous! Refreshing and exhilirating.
A Google search for “lemongrass” led to pages that say it has medicinal uses and its essential oil is used for making cosmetics and perfumes. Wow, now that is what I call a useful herb indeed!
