Newspaper article on food blogs

Lance posted a comment that Pinoy Cook was mentioned in an article in The Honolulu Advertiser.

The same article came out in the Washington Post, the link to which was sent by Filipino photo blogger Jerwin Pasco.

It isnÕt just my food blog that was mentioned. A lot were. The article also points one important reason out why blogs are becoming more and more popular as a source of information:

“Whether bloggers aspire to be the next Jeffrey Steingarten, the sharp-tongued food writer for Vogue, or M.F.K. Fisher, one of the countryÕs early food writers, they provide readers with their own personal food section, updated weekly and, in some instances, daily. The authors of these sites cover what mainstream media overlook or ignore, but in a casual, interactive manner. And, while most newspapers and magazines require payment for online access to articles published in the not-so-distant past, blogging archives are free.”

Yeah, well, we food bloggers write about personal experiences. We donÕt receive, nor do we ask for, money to review a product, store or restaurant. We write about what works and what does not based on our own kitchen and culinary adventures irrespective of whether our opinions reflect negatively on some brands and manufacturers. Are we here just to lambast them? Far from it. They should consider our words as a means to improve their products and/or their services. After all, we are part of the public that they serve.
