Ripe and sweet Philippine mangoes

It’s almost summer and mangoes are getting more abundant in the markets. For someone who absolutely loathes the hot and humid summer months, mangoes are a serious consolation.
If you are a Filipino who used to live in the Philippines but now living in a cold country, you probably miss the ripe, juicy and sweet mangoes that are abundant during the summer months. I live in the Philippines and I miss them nine months out of every year. There is no tropical fruit that I love more than Philippine mangoes. Someone who has never tried them might not be able to fully appreciate that but lets just say that slicing them, scooping the meat from the skin and eating them is just so oh, well, just try them.
Mangoes are available all year round but they are never as juicy nor as sweet as they are during the summer months. Where we live, residents sell mangoes from trees growing in their yards.
P.S. If you ever tire of raw mangoes, you can always try making mango royale, mango muffins, tropical fresh fruit salad, fresh buko (coconut) and fruit salad, chicken and mango stir fry or the current rage in our house, my 12-year-old daughter’s mango shake.

hello sassy or may i call you just connie,
I’m relly, yes the only ripe mango my husband can eat. He just come to
like it during our Bohol trip… when they served it in our boat trip to that known river… sorry i forgot the name!
He never like the mango because here mangoes are coming
from Brasil or Africa… you know the big almost rounde mango.
He likes it only when i am making salads out of half ripen fruit.

I miss the unripe green ones and eating them with the bagoong!
It’s so unfair.. I wish they would import them to NZ so I can eat them all the time… Lol
I ate them when I was in the Philippines for a holiday and I ate so much that It gave me a really bad tummy ache.. but it was worth it cause I got to eat it
before my mom passed she used to get philippine mangos from the filipino store and they are the best ever! whenever I have mango from other places I always compare it, because it is just not as sweet. I can’t wait until they are in full bloom and juicy so I can buy them myself!
